- Determine the fields that might interest you
Easier said than done! Indeed, sometimes we are not sure what type of profession we would like to do later, and it seems difficult to define the career goals that excites us. Don’t worry, this is normal. But it’s also a great exercise to slowly eliminate jobs that don’t interest you at all. Kind of like a funnel, look for your dream job by eliminating the ones you don’t see yourself doing. As you rake your choices, you will find that some professions seem more interesting than others.
- Create strong relationships with industry professionals
If you are interested in a particular area, feel free to browse LinkedIn to personally reach professionals and ask them for advice. Don’t be embarrassed: they will be happy to answer your questions. This way, you will have the opportunity to learn more from experts who really know about it. The relationships you create at this time, by showing curiosity and interest, will be especially useful for an internship, or a job, eventually.
- Be open to possibilities
As we often hear, “the opening of the mind is not a fracture of the skull”. It is important to weigh all of the options available to you when it comes to choosing the right university. So, make a list of the programs that interest you in each English-speaking, French-speaking university, in Quebec or not, etc. In this way, your choice will be clear and reasoned and you will make the best decision for you.
